Best DVD releases of 2007

BUG was my favorite film of year. I can't remember the last time that a horror film stuck with me as much as this one did. Ashley Judd is amazing in this film and hands down delivers the best performance of the year.

BLOOD CAR was the funniest film that I saw in 2007.Taking place 2 weeks in the future where there is hardly any gasoline (32.99 a gallon!) this low budget movie follows a vegan kindergarten teacher and his quest for an alternative fuel supply. Like a cross between Little Shop Of Horrors and an H.G. Lewis flick, this movie is vulgar, crude, gory and most importantly…FUNNY AS HELL!

ISOLATION is an Irish horror film that gave me the same feeling I got while watching John Carpenter's THE THING…except instead of an alien it's cows. ISOLATION is an atmospheric and dead serious film with the best music score of the year.

INLAND EMPIRE makes Lost Highway and Mullholland Drive look like 'normal' movies. After seeing it twice I would even go as far as to say that it might even make Eraserhead look normal. The ultimate and most confusing Lynch film to date!

VACANCY blew me away in that it was short, to the point and genuinely thrilling in its final act. It was cool to watch a well-done "b" movie put out by a major studio.

DEATH PROOF is my favorite Quentin Tarrantino movie to date and if you disagree, may you be run over and killed by Stunt Man Mike.

BROKEN could easily be mistaken for another lame entry into the torture porn craze (I know I thought it was) but is an amazing movie about insanity, survival and human endurance.

IDIOCRACY should be shown in our schools, it's that important of a film. It is also very, very funny.

MEATBALL MACHINE gets the award for most "what the fuck?" moments in any film that I watched this year. A hardcore cyber splatter flick made by the only country that knows how to make such things, Japan.

PLANET TERROR reminded me of one of my favorite Italian horror flicks from the 80's, Umberto Lenzi's NIGHTMARE CITY and that's why I liked it. Rose McGownan with a machinegun attached t o her leg stump was pretty cool too.

Honorable mention

DEAD SILENCE is the follow up film from the guy who directed the abysmal SAW and is a solid and simple horror movie that plays like a Goosebumps episode for adults.
EVIL ALIENS & BLACK SHEEP get the early Peter Jackson era adoration award this year. Both are funny, extremely gory and made on low budgets.
HOSTEL 2 was much better than HOSTEL and should have been the only film
SHUTTER was the creepiest Asian horror film that I saw all year. It also has a kick ass ending that was one of the year's best.

Worst of 2007

HANNIBAL RISING was the stupidest movie that you were supposed to take seriously of the year
HOOD OF HORROR was the stupidest stupid movie of the year.
BORDERLINE CULT was the reason why people hate Lions Gate.
TURISTAS was so bad, that hot chicks running around in bikinis could not save it.
BLADE: THE HOUSE OF SHITE was a made for cable (Spike Network) Blade movie and was just like all the other Blade movies except that Wesley Snipes wasn't in it. It is however, better than Blade Trinity, but that's like saying that having the burning shits is better than having burning piss. Boring.

Best reissues of 2007

BAVA BOX VOLUMES 1&2…Enough said.
EATEN ALIVE…2 disk collector's edition of Tobe Hooper's weird follow up film to TCM.

THE FLY COLLECTION contains both original films from the 50's and the seldom seen second sequel, Curse of the Fly from the sixties.
THE DARK BACKWARD is the best cult film to emerge from the 90's and is now finally available on DVD.

THE MONSTER SQUAD &THE WITCHFINDER GENERAL& SPIDER BABY SPECIAL EDITIONS…3 movies that people have been clamoring for years.
GODZILLA REISSUES…These contain both Japanese and English versions of such classics as INVASION Of The Astro Monster and Mothra versus Godzilla. Cool packaging too.
PAUL NASCHY REISSUES…Fans of the Spanish horror icons were excited to upgrade from the shitty looking bootlegs they have been watching all these years.
TWIN PEAKS BOX SET…about fucking time.
